Mark's Primal BBQ Sauce

This recipe was featured on Mark's Daily Apple. It sounds yummy! We....or should I say, my husband, uses the BBQ all the time. Three and a half seasons around here! A new sauce is always a welcome change.

Mark's Primal BBQ Sauce

1/3 cup (about 3 ounces) tomato paste
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 – 1 teaspoon hot sauce
1 – 2 tablespoons honey
2 – 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons tamari
1/2 teaspoon mustard
2 tablespoons water
1⁄4 teaspoon ground allspice
1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1⁄4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1⁄2 teaspoon chili powder
1⁄2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon onion powder

In a small bowl mix together tomato paste, butter, hot sauce, honey, vinegar, tamari, mustard and water.

In another small bowl mix together allspice, cinnamon, pepper, chili powder, paprika and onion powder.

Mix the spices in with the wet ingredients.

Brush on meat before grilling or dip cooked meat into the sauce.

My husband and I are trying to eat 80% primal. Just wondering if you eat this way with your family a lot of the time? I'm finding it too challenging to feed the kids this way, but we have been trying to get them to eat a LOT more protein and less grains.

Thanks for sharing these recipes!

Thank you Sonja for your comment. I am trying to eat 80%-ish myself. I'm not always successful, but little by little I am getting better. As a family, we are eating less much wheat, but we're still using beans and rice. None of the children react to either and they are so useful for filling and energizing my growing family.

I am slowly adding more primal recipes into our rotation as I try them and they are accepted by my husband. I rather doubt we'll ever go 100%. I'm not wholly convinced that it is necessary for most people. We do choose whole foods most of the time. Enjoying a wide variety of God's bountiful foods is the way we choose to eat! Lessening our wheat and overall grain consumption seems to help us enjoy lots of other choices.

That being said, I ate pasta the other night and had quite a bit of *ahem* intestinal distress. I won't be doing that again for a long time!
